I Costa Vicentina MTBO Trophy

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Mapmaker: Jean-Charles Lalevée

Course Setter: Tiago Fernandes

Both courses will be held in semi-urban terrain, with some climbing in forest areas, with a good network of urban and forest paths, with interesting options and demanding orienteering technique.

Given the fact that the courses will be held in the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina, where there are special protection areas, some areas of the map are off bounds and it is strictly forbidden to ride off track in the whole area.

On both days, the Start if about 1km-away from the Arena, and there will be appropriate signage.

WARNING

Special attention is required in urban areas and when crossing roads, as traffic will not be cut off and traffic rules must be followed.

As we are in a Natural Park area, it is not permitted to drive off the beaten track and some areas of the map are off-limits and therefore cannot be travelled in. These rules must be complied with and failure to do so will result in the immediate disqualification of the athlete. In addition, failure to comply with these rules could jeopardise future orienteering activities in this area, so we ask for your utmost attention and care.

Due to the rainy year, the vegetation has grown a lot, altering some of the circulation of some of the paths. There is also tree felling being carried out in one area of the map and agricultural work, which has altered some of the mapped vegetation.

Some of the lines between dots are on top of paths, so they have been partially cut or even blinked to allow a view of the road below.

There are lines of water on the map, which in the event of heavy rain may be visible but are not always so, we chose to leave them on the map, placing them as intermittent, their placement on the map allows us to see some features of the terrain such as small indentations or valleys.
